The Old West 30th July. The fourth match of the season was held at the Old West at Stretham Pump. Conditions facing us were a strong breeze with the chance of rain later in the day.

Upon arrival the water was crystal clear but there were some decent sized shoal fish swimming around which gave some optimism. Most wanted an early peg near the bridge but you never can be sure where the fish will hold along this stretch. The weed wasn’t too bad but most opted to rake beforehand to ensure a clear spot. Taking top spot was Gwynn Andrews with a weight of 9lb 15oz from end peg 10. Gwyn managed to catch a few better quality hemp fish against the far bank. His catch comprising of roach, rudd, skimmers and bleak. Second was Mark Freeman with 240 whip caught fish for exactly 8lb from peg 9. Third position was Trevor Sturge with a weight of 6lb 12oz of mainly small fish from Peg 8. Trevor continued his good run of managing to break a pole section in every match so far! A large gust of wind doing the damage this time! The wind made it difficult to present the bait well but we did manage to stay dry all day! The next match is being held at Block Fen, Mepal on Sunday 13th August. Limited pegs are available at this venue to please book in early with Trevor.
