The Cam above Baitsbite Lock was our 2nd match of the season. Conditions were bright with the wind due to get up during the day. The river water was clear but from a distance the weed didn’t look too bad. Before the draw the early pegs were fancied by most due the number of fish topping the surface.

After the draw had been made, some opted to throw a weed rake in to clear their swims and further out it was found to be relatively clear. It was Trevor Sturge who took top honours in this one with a weight of 7lb 2oz on mainly long pole tactics. His weight comprising of a lovely 4lb bream. He also lost several other better fish including a large perch. It was also an expensive day for him breaking 2 pole sections during the match! 2nd on the day was Mark Freeman with a weight of 6lb 10oz made up of 230 small fish on the whip. He too lost a large perch which was skulking around his keepnet. Trevor next to him wondering why he was trying to fish a foot out from the bank to hook it!!  In 3rd position was Gwyn Andrews whose 6lb 1oz catch comprised of small perch, roach, bream and bleak. At the end of the match several big carp were also spotted moving along the stretch. An enjoyable day with clearly plenty of decent sized fish swimming about which is good to see given the fish deaths further along the stretch a few weeks ago. Book into the next match with Trevor on Sunday 16th July. The match will be held at The Lode at Upware. Ian Claydon
