Points Match 2 The Lark 4 th July 2021
We again fished the section upstream of the moorings, partly because there were 19 booked to fish, which the more usual downstream pegs could not accommodate, and partly because it is considered a more even and so fairer section. Trevor however, the supporter of this view, might change his mind after weighing in the second lowest net of only 11 oz, only managing to beat returning Russ Smith because he was so out of practice. Thanks go to Ken, Mike, Glen, Simon, Alan and organiser Trevor for their efforts in clearing bankside vegetation and weed from all the swims. While the fishing was pretty poor throughout the section there was one highlight when Don Savins found a ½ decent tench to boost his winning weight to 4 lb 10 oz. Had it not been for that bonus tench then John Reed would have won as he was just 1 oz behind for second place with a net of small roach/rudd, again the peg closest to the moorings proving its potential. Steve Palmer worked hard to secure third place with only 2 lb 10 oz, beating Ken by just 2 oz, although there were less than 4 oz between the next three places. 11 of the 18 ‘anglers’ weighed in less than 2 lb, yet another day to forget! I suppose this does support Trevor’s view that it is a fairly even section! There was another event to remember, the extremely heavy downpour that started almost without warning. Just a few drops over a few minutes followed immediately by the heaviest rain I’ve seen for some years. Worried about ruining his hair style Steve Palmer spotted the looming clouds and retreated to his car while the rest hid under brollies.
