The Fens

Hugh Miles sent us this catch report from the fens:
I came - and went Graham. Sorry I didn't get in touch but the weather at seasons start was so changeable I didn't know whether to fish for tench or Arctic Char! Given the weather, I didn't know if I'd stay or give up and did just that after a few days. By 'eck it was cold some mornings, so much so that I went back to my sleeping bag wearing a pullover. As a result no tench, the only one hooked breaking me in the weed. Caught some lumpy bream and several good rudd though and the birding was great, over sixty species identified with the highlight being breeding avocets. The Fens were as magical as ever, in spite of the wind and cold and it was a rewarding pilgrimage once again. Sadly, I don't think work will allow a return this year but here's hoping I'm wrong. Do hope you're catching a few and the club flourishing and if you are out there, be lucky. Warm regards ... Hugh.
